The Takenaka Carpentry Tools Museum was established in 1984 in Kobe, the birth place of Takenaka Corporation, with the aim to gather and collect carpentry tools that are quickly disappearing from around the world, in order to pass on the skills and the spirit of craftsmen to later generations through research and exhibitions. More than 24,000 tools have been collected so far. The permanent exhibition displays such tools alongside descriptions of their usage and their making. Themed exhibition, lectures, seminars and workshops are held regularly to further deepen the understanding of this fascinating world.
